The Apstec Merlin system was showcased at the Intersec Dubai 2026 exhibition, held January 12-14 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This advanced security solution can distinguish between prohibited metallic items, such as weapons, and everyday objects like smartphones or keys. By eliminating the need for passengers to divest their personal effects, the system promises to enhance throughput and improve the overall experience at busy locations.

The company states that Apstec Merlin is engineered for high-volume environments such as airports, train stations, sports stadiums, and large public venues. It is capable of screening up to 2,500 individuals per hour, a rate that Apstec claims can allow a single Merlin unit to effectively replace five traditional screening lanes. This increased capacity is crucial for maintaining smooth operations and passenger flow, especially during peak times.

Niclas Gustafsson, Apstec’s Group CEO and COO, highlighted the importance of this new technology.
