This advanced security solution can distinguish between prohibited metallic items, such as weapons, and everyday objects like smartphones or keys. By eliminating the need for passengers to divest their personal effects, the system promises to enhance throughput and improve the overall experience at busy locations.

It is capable of screening up to 2,500 individuals per hour, a rate that Apstec claims can allow a single Merlin unit to effectively replace five traditional screening lanes.
