OPSWAT and NetApp have joined forces to enhance enterprise file security by integrating OPSWAT’s MetaDefender Storage Security solution with NetApp ONTAP.
This new collaboration embeds robust multi-layered threat detection capabilities directly into NetApp’s data management platform. The integration aims to block file-borne malware, prevent data leaks, and identify vulnerabilities at the storage layer, an important development for businesses seeking to bolster their cybersecurity posture across diverse environments, including cloud, hybrid, and on-premises setups.
OPSWAT MetaDefender Storage Security Enhances NetApp ONTAP
The integration allows organizations to leverage OPSWAT’s advanced security technologies, such as MetaScan Multiscanning, Deep CDR (content disarm and reconstruction), and Proactive DLP, directly within their NetApp storage infrastructure. This approach provides a critical line of defense against increasingly sophisticated file-based threats that can bypass traditional perimeter security measures.
According to the announcement, the solution is designed for seamless deployment and operation without requiring significant changes to existing IT workflows or impacting storage performance. This is crucial for enterprises that prioritize business continuity alongside robust security.
Key Security Features of the Integration
The MetaDefender Storage Security solution incorporates several advanced threat detection techniques. These include scanning files with multiple leading antivirus engines simultaneously to increase detection rates. Additionally, Deep CDR technology reconstructs files to remove any exploitable content, effectively neutralizing zero-day threats.
Proactive DLP capabilities help prevent sensitive data from being inadvertently leaked or maliciously exfiltrated. The solution also includes vulnerability assessment tools to identify known weaknesses within files, offering a comprehensive approach to file security.
Spencer Sells, Vice President of Global Alliances at NetApp, stated that the partnership allows customers to further strengthen their defenses. “By adding additional virus scanning capabilities from our partner ecosystem, customers gain more options to prevent file-borne threats before they spread, reduce compliance exposure, and keep operations running even as risks evolve,” Sells said.
The integration supports common data transfer protocols, including SMB, NFS, and SFTP, facilitating its adoption within a wide range of enterprise storage architectures. This interoperability ensures that the enhanced file security measures can be implemented broadly across an organization’s storage footprint.
George Prichici, Vice President of Products at OPSWAT, highlighted the value proposition. “With OPSWAT MetaDefender Storage Security integrated into NetApp ONTAP for on-prem and cloud deployments, we help customers stop file-based threats at the storage layer and demonstrate controls for audits without changing workflows,” Prichici said.
The companies anticipate that this integration will provide a significant upgrade in protection for organizations handling sensitive data. The next steps will involve widespread availability and customer adoption, with ongoing updates expected as new threats emerge.
